Doing Asbestos They Can

It's the 1st of July and as promised work has started on the Ritz Cinema site. I had a quick chat with the site manager, John, from Alfred McAlpine.

Ritz Cinema Asbestos Removal

John says that the work is going to take 14 weeks with a crew of 15-20 men working to remove all the asbestos on the site, which includes the old Clanricarde Surgery and Hill House too. He says there are all levels of asbestos on site and the most dangerous asbestos board is in good supply. It will mean sealing off the interior in a double-skinned tent, then vacuuming and vacuum-packing the asbestos before safely carrying it out to dispose of it. Perfectly safe he reassures me.

Most interestingly I slipped in the question of demolition, you wouldn't expect anything less of me would you? He said that it will go out to tender after the asbestos removal. So we could be looking at demolition, presuming someone is brave enough to want to demolish it, in around September, possibly?

Thanks for your time this morning, John.

Righteous asbestos-removing dudes; my full respect to anyone who will do that job.

"He said that it will go out to tender AFTER the asbestos removal" - Peoject management at its best.

If I were rich (worth £10 Billion) I would buy The Ritz and restore it to 1930s standards, turning the shops into a Green Room, and being Proprietor of Ritzopera, and Ritzphilharmonie. Not sure whether there is a pit.

This morning this is my dream.

If you were that rich I would insist you took me on to work there and help make it happen, I would need £40 million a year plus bonus. Sound reasonable?
